Stephen Davis Obituary, LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Two people were found dead inside a Lakewood home early Sunday morning after a reported shooting, and the suspected gunman later died by suicide following a police pursuit and standoff, authorities said.
The victims were identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office as Richard Eastin, 35, of Cleveland, and Amanda Leigh Wakut, 33, of Lakewood. Police identified the suspected shooter as Stephen Davis, 45, of Fairview Park, who died at the scene after turning the gun on himself during a confrontation with officers.
According to the Lakewood Police Department, officers were called to a residence on Chesterland Avenue around 4:26 a.m. on June 21 after Davis allegedly contacted his ex-wife and said he had shot two people inside the home and intended to take his own life.
Police said responding officers saw a dark-colored pickup truck leaving the area and attempted to stop the vehicle, leading to a brief pursuit through Lakewood. The truck eventually stopped near Warren Road, where Davis reportedly exited the vehicle holding a handgun.
Officers attempted to negotiate with Davis for several minutes as he reportedly made phone calls to his estranged wife and daughter. Authorities said he refused commands to surrender and ultimately shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the standoff ended, officers returned to the Chesterland Avenue residence and discovered Eastin and Wakut inside the home suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators said the two victims were found in the kitchen area.
Authorities confirmed that Wakut and Davis had been in a relationship for about one year. Investigators are still working to determine Eastin’s connection to the couple and have not released a possible motive behind the shootings.
The Lakewood Police Department continues investigating the deaths as an apparent double homicide followed by suicide. Officials are working to uncover additional details surrounding the incident and what led to the deadly violence.
