13-year-old dies Yo-Yo ride Accident, BUTTE, MONTANA — A 13-year-old boy has died after being seriously injured in a carnival ride accident that occurred in Butte earlier this month, authorities confirmed.
According to the Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff’s Office, the teenager sustained severe injuries on June 7 after falling from a moving carnival ride known as the “Yo-Yo” at a pop-up carnival held in the parking lot near the Butte Civic Center. Emergency responders, including police and fire personnel, were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
The boy was initially transported for medical treatment in Butte before being airlifted to a hospital in Kalispell, where he remained under intensive care. Officials confirmed that despite medical efforts, the teen died on Sunday evening as a result of the injuries he sustained.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, citing the need to consult with the family before public disclosure. The sheriff’s office said the family is being supported as they process the tragic loss.
The carnival operator involved in the incident has been identified as Midway West Amusements, an Arizona-based traveling carnival company. Following the accident, all rides at the event were suspended, and the specific ride involved was isolated for inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials have not yet determined what caused the boy to fall from the ride, and investigators say the case remains active. Law enforcement added that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
The incident has renewed concerns around carnival ride safety in Montana, where oversight regulations differ from many other states. However, authorities have not indicated any confirmed safety violations at this stage of the investigation.
The investigation into the fatal carnival accident remains ongoing as officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the teen’s death.
May he rest in peace.
