Jayveon Bell Obituary, COLUMBUS, GEORGIA — Authorities are investigating a deadly early morning shooting that claimed the life of 20-year-old Jayveon Bell near the intersection of 31st Avenue and Delta Street on Monday, June 22, 2026.
According to the Columbus Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area during the early hours of the morning. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was later identified by Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan as Jayveon Bell, 20. He was pronounced deceased at 6:32 a.m. following the incident. Officials confirmed that his remains have been transferred to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police say the Columbus Police Department Violent Crimes Unit is actively handling the case. At this time, investigators have not released details regarding a suspect or possible motive behind the shooting.
The area was secured as officers canvassed the scene for evidence and attempted to gather information from potential witnesses. Authorities have not indicated whether surveillance footage or additional leads have been identified.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding Bell’s death.
