Anthony Viola Obituary, SHIRLEY, N.Y. — A fatal motorcycle crash in Shirley, New York, on Saturday evening, June 21, 2026, claimed the life of Anthony Viola, 44, of Mastic, following a collision involving a motorcycle and an SUV at a busy intersection, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Authorities reported that the crash occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Clyde Road and Hounslow Road. Investigators said Viola was operating a Ducati motorcycle westbound on Clyde Road when he entered the intersection and collided with the driver’s side of a 2023 Kia SUV traveling southbound on Hounslow Road.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene within minutes. Viola was found critically injured, and first responders immediately performed lifesaving measures before transporting him under police escort to Stony Brook University Hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite extensive efforts by paramedics and hospital staff, Viola later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Kia, a 38-year-old man from Shirley, sustained minor injuries and was transported to NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk for further evaluation.
The intersection was closed for several hours as detectives and members of the Crash Investigation Squad with the Suffolk County Police Department processed the scene. Investigators documented roadway evidence, examined vehicle damage, and worked to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the collision.
Authorities confirmed that initial reports regarding the victim’s identity were later corrected following formal identification procedures, ultimately confirming Viola as the deceased motorcyclist. Officials stated that the investigation remains ongoing, and it is not yet clear whether speed, right-of-way issues, or other contributing factors played a role in the crash.
