Central Texas Highway Accident, CENTRAL TEXAS — A horrific multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 171 has left six people dead, including two children, after a violent head-on collision involving a passenger car and a van that burst into flames following the impact.
According to preliminary information from investigators, the crash occurred when a Nissan passenger vehicle attempted to pass another car and entered the lane of oncoming traffic. The vehicle then collided head-on with a Ford passenger van, resulting in a catastrophic impact that shut down the highway and drew emergency responders to the scene.
Authorities confirmed that both vehicles caught fire immediately after the collision. Despite rapid response efforts, six occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, including two children who were among the passengers in the vehicles involved.
One child survived the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where officials say the child is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No additional details regarding the victims’ identities have been released as authorities work to notify their families.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the deadly collision, including the passing maneuver that may have caused the crash. Officials have not yet confirmed whether speed, road conditions, or other factors played a role.
