George Porter III and Latayia Prewitt Obituary: Two Tuscaloosa Residents Killed in Fatal Rollover Crash in Tuscaloosa County

George Porter III and Latayia Prewitt Obituary, TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. — Two Tuscaloosa residents, George L. Porter III, 19, and Latayia Necole Furr Prewitt, 22, were killed in a tragic single-vehicle rollover crash early Monday morning in Tuscaloosa County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, on Crescent Ridge Road Northeast near Ninth Street Northeast, about one mile north of Tuscaloosa. The incident involved a 2013 Nissan Maxima carrying multiple occupants when it left the roadway under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Preliminary reports from Alabama State Troopers indicate that the vehicle was traveling along Crescent Ridge Road when it suddenly veered off the roadway. Sgt. Reginal King stated that the Nissan struck a guy wire after leaving the road, which caused the vehicle to become airborne before overturning.

Both George Porter III and Latayia Prewitt were passengers in the vehicle and suffered catastrophic injuries in the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, but both individuals were pronounced dead at the location.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Eric L. Hayes Jr., 20, of Bessemer, sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. Officials have not released additional details regarding the extent of his injuries.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed that the investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway, and no further contributing factors have been released at this time.

The tragic loss of George Porter III and Latayia Prewitt has left family members, friends, and the Tuscaloosa community in mourning as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the deadly rollover crash.
